BABY BOYS NURSERY
I absolutely love working on kids’ rooms and nurseries, so I had a lot of fun collaborating with my clients on their baby boy’s nursery. At the start, this room was bland and lacked inspiration. It was a classic boring rental property bedroom with magnolia walls.
My clients had already chosen a fabulous fabric for the curtains and also had a few items of existing furniture. However they were at a dead end and didn’t know how to move forwards with the room. They wanted the bedroom to last Mortimer a good few years and also didn’t want to spend an arm and a leg on new items, but instead make use of what they already had.
Taking the fabric sample and existing furniture items into account, I put together a fun, colorful scheme for Mortimer’s nursery. I used the colors from the curtain fabric sample as a base to build the color scheme around; picking out the dark blue and using this to create a feature wall. We then upcycled a few furniture items, e.g. the chest of drawers, by painting the knobs with bright colours and some spare side tables to create a reading bench.
To pull this room together, I added animal accessories, such as the artwork on the feature wall and the Giraffe head above Mortimer’s crib (which I believe has since been named ‘Sam’). I wanted to utilize the wall space, so added some shallow shelves for Morty’s books to be displayed. This is not just functional, but it also looks great as the book covers add so much color and vibrancy to the room. To finish this room I added a bright wall sticker on the wall as you enter the room with Mortimer’s name and styled the room with Mortimer’s toys and teddies.
