BARN KITCHEN RENOVATION
This barn conversion was such an amazing project to be a part of. Seeing a derelict, run down, 18th century building develop into a modern 4 bedroom country barn conversion, was something I will never forget.
At the point in which I was brought in to get involved with this project, the foundations were laid and the framing of the building had been erected. Working mainly on the kitchen and stairway, I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this house’s transformation.
For this project my client was fairly open to ideas and willing to let me take the reins design wise. Being a fan of neutral color schemes, natural materials and clean lines, I wanted to implement these aspects whilst taking the building’s history and location into consideration. I wanted the kitchen to remain traditional with a hint of the farmhouse look, but I also wanted it to have a modern feel about it.
By working closely with suppliers we were able to produce a beautiful traditional kitchen with a modern twist. With traditional farmhouse features such as the shaker-style cabinetry, large island and the farmhouse sink mixed in with modern items such as the white carrera quartz worktops, stainless steel range cooker created the perfect balance of old and new. Adding some finishing touches, like the glass jar pendant lights and brushed steel hardware ties the scheme together and gives it that added element of class and beauty.
I must also mention the amazing staircase I helped my client with for this barn conversion project. The design of this staircase was inspired by the existing window sills that had been installed before I was involved. I was very keen to keep the theme consistent throughout the building, ensuring flow and synergy from room to room. Working with the joiners, we ended up with a gorgeous oak staircase with wrought iron railings.
