GLAMOROUS LIVING ROOM
This living room was originally fairly dated, with light pink walls, dim wall lighting, dark furniture and a tired carpet. Before calling me in, my clients had already chosen a new carpet, couch and armchair but were unsure how to pull the room together or what to do about wall color. The new carpet was light gray/silver, the armchair was cream leather and the couch was a light lilac color. Working with clients who have already made a start on their project can be a challenge as some clients buy items they like without considering how everything will look together. However, like this project, I enjoy rising to the challenge and creating a cohesive scheme and pulling together items that don’t necessarily ‘go’.
My clients knew they wanted something relaxing, but they also wanted something eye catching and unique. They wanted a bold statement wall of some sort, but also wanted to incorporate some texture/pattern to the walls.
Using this information and the fabric samples they’d given me, I was able to create a scheme that included the items they’d already bought as well as introducing some new features that were going to pull the room together. I used a deep purple on the fireplace wall and added a statement mirror to give the room a focal point and a touch of glamour. I sourced a semi-metallic stone effect wallpaper to hang either side of the statement wall, and accessorized with crystal wall lights. This not only made the room lighter, but also added sparkle and contrast.
In terms of furniture, I introduced a polished chrome console table and side tables to update the room and give it a modern look. I purchased new cushions with deep purple running through them, tying in with the feature wall and pulling the room together. To give the room an added element of grandeur I bought 2 large chrome side lamps with silk shades, to sit either side of the couch. Decorative ornaments were then layered on top to give the room that ‘show home’ feel with a calming atmosphere to unwind.
